How to Store Cannabis Properly

Keep your flower fresh, your edibles potent, and your concentrates clean with proper storage.

The Enemies of Freshness

Four things degrade cannabis: light (especially UV), heat, air (oxygen), and humidity extremes. Properly stored flower can stay fresh for 6-12 months. Poorly stored flower dries out, loses terpenes, and becomes harsh.

Flower Storage

Use an airtight glass jar (Mason jars work perfectly) in a cool, dark place. Ideal temperature: 60-70°F (15-21°C). Ideal humidity: 58-62% — use a humidity pack (like Boveda 62%) inside the jar. Avoid plastic bags (static strips trichomes) and never use the fridge or freezer (moisture fluctuations cause mold).

Concentrate Storage

Short-term (weeks): silicone or glass containers at room temperature. Long-term (months): wrap in parchment paper inside an airtight glass jar, store in a cool dark place. Some users refrigerate concentrates for long-term storage — just let them return to room temperature before opening to avoid condensation.

Edible Storage

Follow the same rules as regular food. Most gummies and chocolates last 3-6 months in a cool, dark place. Baked goods have shorter shelf lives (1-2 weeks, or freeze them). Always check expiration dates.

Signs Your Cannabis Has Gone Bad

Crumbles to dust when touched (too dry). Musty or off smell (possible mold). Visible white fuzzy spots (definitely mold — throw it away). Harsh, flavorless smoke. If in doubt, toss it.
