Cannabis Safety & Harm Reduction
How to consume responsibly — overconsumption, mixing substances, driving, and when to take a tolerance break.
Know Your Limits
Cannabis affects everyone differently based on body weight, tolerance, metabolism, and the specific product. What's a great dose for someone else might be too much for you. Always start low with a new strain or product, even if you're experienced.
Overconsumption ("Greening Out")
Symptoms include anxiety, paranoia, rapid heart rate, nausea, dizziness, and sweating. This is scary but not life-threatening. To help: move to a calm quiet space, drink water, try the black pepper trick (chew 2-3 peppercorns), take CBD if available, and remember it will pass.
Don't Mix Substances
Combining cannabis with alcohol intensifies both. "Crossfading" often leads to nausea and spins. If you drink, reduce your cannabis dose significantly. Avoid combining cannabis with other substances without understanding the interactions.
Never Drive Impaired
Cannabis impairs reaction time, coordination, and judgment. Don't drive after consuming — even if you feel "fine." Effects can be subtle but still dangerous. Plan a ride home before consuming.
Tolerance Breaks
Regular use builds tolerance — you need more to get the same effect. A "T-break" of even 2-3 days can help, but 1-2 weeks is ideal. Your CB1 receptors begin to recover within 48 hours. After a break, start with a much lower dose than your previous normal.
Storage Safety
Keep all cannabis products locked away from children and pets. Edibles are particularly risky since they look like regular candy or food. Use child-resistant containers and store them separately from regular snacks.
